Breath Prayers

Time needed: 5 minutes or more
Place: Anywhere
Print: Download and print the file 'Breath Prayers' (Print double-sided, flip on short edge).

A breath prayer is a simple short phrase that expresses our desire for intimacy with God. As we intentional link our breathing to each one of these phrases, they become our mantra as we move through the day. We can also say these breath prayers as we sit, quiet and still in solitude and silence. As we pray in rhythm with our breathing, our thoughts are diverted from other distraction and grounded in the reality of God's presence. The bounty of breath prayers increase with practice.

'Come Lord Jesus, come.
I am yours, you are mine.
Not my will, but yours be done.
When I am afraid, I will trust you.
My help comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth
Holy wisdom, guide me.
Everlasting to everlasting.'

Marketplace Observations

Time needed: 30 minutes or more
Place: Somewhere public like a shopping centre or park
Print: Download and print the file 'Marketplace Observations' (Print double-sided, flip on short edge).

Use the Marketplace Observations as a prayer guide, and a way of purposely looking for God’s presence in the hustle and bustle of life.

Instead of going to the mall as a place of destination shopping, we can adopt it as a place of prayer for our communities. Make this the intention of your visit; go with a friend or two if they’re available for this purpose. It’s quite unobtrusive to those around you and with practice you’ll begin seeing things that you haven’t noticed before.

Follow the steps; no need to ‘bow your heads and pray’ and make notes on the back.
