The Salvation Army's Empower Women's Adventure Camp 2021

Posted March 9, 2020

After the successful launch of Empower Women's Adventure Camp in March, our second camp in November 12-15 is sold out too! Empower is our all-women outdoor adventure camp at The Salvation Army's Blue Mountain Adventure Centre in Raurimu, New Zealand - the next camp will be in 2022 so keep updated on our Facebook or BMACs website.

We were so stoked at the turnout at the first-ever Empower Women's Adventure Camp in March. Women from all around New Zealand and a variety of abilities and backgrounds gathered for the four-day challenge of a lifetime! Read women's testimonies from the last Empower Camp here. We hope these inspire you to join our upcoming event in 2022, open to all women in our nation.

There will be two full and two half-days worth of activities which could include white-water rafting, caving, high ropes, gorging, kayaking, mountaineering, rock climbing, abseiling, canoeing, tramping, swimming, campfire nights and more.

A vision for empowering women

Rosemarie Keen is the young adventure instructor at The Salvation Army Blue Mountain Adventure Centre who dreamed up Empower Women's Adventure Camp. She observed that on mixed-group camps, women would sometimes miss out on the full experience of the outdoors because they would be too busy volunteering to do the bulk of the cooking or childcare or clean up!

Rose's hope is that women who come to Empower will discover the strength and resolve they never knew they had, spiritually and physically. Read more from Rose Keen and her testimony here.

Northern Division #SupportHers Project gets women to Empower

The Salvation Army Northern Division Women's Ministries joined the empowering experience in 2021 by fundraising to send women from Epsom Lodge, Auckland and Northland-based Recovery Churches to Empower Women's Adventure Camp in 2021! Divisional Director of Women's Ministries Major Liz Gainsford has challenged the Division to 'show her she's got an army of supporters' and is excited about the opportunity for their women to spend their time at the camp with other Salvationists.
